About

My research looks at the changes in the Soviet Union in the late 1960s and 1970s, including technological transformations that restructured design and architecture professions, but also changes in everyday life and values. Most recently I have written about the “Tallinn School” of architects in the 1970s (in Journal of Architecture 1/2009) as well as co-curated an exhibition about their work at the Museum of Estonian Architecture (in 2008).

My other research interests include issues of contemporary urbanism and architecture, urban representations, artistic practices and interventions in the city and post-Socialist transformations and spatial conflicts in Tallinn and other Baltic countries. I have contributed to several exhibition catalogues and journals, including “After War”, accompanying Kristiina Norman’s exhibition at the Venice Biennale in 2009 and “Archilab Europe. Strategic Architecture” (Editions HYX 2008). I have also edited “A User’s Guide to Tallinn” (with Mari Laanemets, 2002).
